PG editorial staff against the privatization of the PTC

Who knew that the Turnpike is the "pride of Pennsylvania"? I love how everybody hints that the PTC is laden with patronage jobs, but nobody wants to name names or call somebody out on the floor.

It would have been nice if they had bothered to mention any alternatives to privatization, rather than just complaining about it...

I can understand their beef with the potential sale of this asset, but what's the problem with leasing or competitively contracting out service or maintenance? I'm sure that some other public/private partnership can be reached.

In this case, doing nothing is still an option. There's nothing wrong with taking bids to get a good idea of the market value of this asset.

The thing that is wrong with taking bids is that the contract for the bid-taker is with a firm that came right from a legislative retiree.

Corruption.

The jerk is pulling an inside deal with taxpayer money for a possible bid process for his private company.

This isn't any arms-length transaction.

It is like selling your house -- and picking a realator. There is money to be made there -- just as a broker for the deal.

When and how did that contract get let?

You ask what is wrong with this ?? Well here you go, It is not the Turnpike that is in the red and needs money you see, it is Penndot and Septa. So there obviously is a MAJOR Problem here, lets not fix the problem Rendell see's the Turnpike as GOLDEN GOOSE. First of all the employees of the PA TURNPIKE built that road way no money came from taxpaying citizens and thats where everyone is confused. Rendell should fix the problems instead of creating new ones for a quick fix that is going to belly-up fast and then guess what the TAXPAYERS will consume the burden again.... Just when fast EDDIE term is up. So people don't you see what is going on here. Also if you read the paper he highered x senator for LCB for 150,000 a year also advertising on the Pa Turnpike that PENNDOT are looking for people to higher but they have no money to take care of there roadways and septa. That is the biggest crock of bull that I have ever heard and he has people brainwashed and the legistlatures pockets keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger. It is time for us taxpaying citizens to step up to the plate. Did you know we have 253 legistlatures how about cutting there jobs in half.... Guess what we the taxpayers would save between 78 and 137 million a year GO TAXPAYERS LETS BOOT THESE MORONS OUT.... OK I SEE 137 MILLION AND 550 MILLION FOR STATE POLICE THAT I BELIEVE GIVES US 687 MILLION DOLLARS SURE BEATS LEASING TO A FOREIGN COUNTRY thats where all our jobs are going. We need to start protecting our inventory..... NO MORE LEASING TO FOREIGN CREEPS

So long as PA retains ownership of this asset, I have no problem leasing to "foreign creeps" if they're willing to invest capital in to our domestic transportation system. This is the Turnpike. It's not a port of entry that has major effects on our national security. I don't care what nationality a potential turnpike operator might be. I only care if they're money is green.

As for eliminating over 126 elected official positions, I'm cool with that.
